An exercise physiologist teaches people how to safely use exercise to recover from, prevent, or cope with injury or illness. Some exercise physiologists work with athletes to help them bounce back from injury or improve performance. Others specialize in treating people who need exercise to recover from major health problems, such as heart disease or stroke. Exercise physiologists must be certified or have at least one degree in exercise physiology. See the physical therapist and sports trainer profiles to compare these different fields.
