An anthropologist is a scientist who studies various aspects of humankind. The four main areas of study within anthropology are cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, linguistics, and archaeology. Archaeologists study how humans lived in the past by looking for and analyzing artifacts such as buildings, graves, and artwork. A cultural anthropologist studies the culture of a particular region or people. A physical anthropologist studies the evolution of humans and other primates. Linguists study human languages and what they reveal about our biology and history.

Anthropologists can work as professors, researchers, writers, museum curators, criminal investigators, and more. Most colleges and universities offer Bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and graduate degrees in more specific areas.
